Scholars Bowl Results

The Osborne  Scholars Bowl fans and proud parents met together on a bright sunny day Saturday, February, 11, 2023 to send off their Varsity Scholars' Bowl team at 8:30 AM to compete in the KSHSAA 1A Division 1 State Scholars Bowl.  Despite the brilliant sunshine, in a cloudless sky, the temperature outside was below the freezing point of freshwater.  Mr. Brown was their designated driver since Fairfield, the host school for the 1A Division 1 State Meet, was where Mr. Brown used to teach so he knew the way and Mr. Brown is the Driver Ed instructor for Osborne.   Only six team members from each school could compete according to KSHSAA rules.  So Seniors Graham Bales and Levi Knoll, Sophomores Clay Guttery and Kate Kendig, and Freshman Mary Carlin took up the mantle for competing for the Osborne High Bulldogs.   Katzel Carlin, who was part of the team who took first place at Regional, became ill the day before the trip and was not able to attend.       There were twelve schools at this prestigious event.  As Rod Garman, the KSHSAA administrator for Scholars Bowl, put it, the teams that were at Fairfield were the top teams out of 54 Division 1 schools. The questions, like the questions at Regional, were quite challenging.  The Osborne team was quite competitive but was only able to out score two of their opponents in the first five preliminary  rounds which wasn't enough to make it into the final rounds.
Thus with an extra competition added to the season,  OHS Scholars Bowl has come to an end.  And with the end of a season comes the farewell to our seniors.  Thanks in part to our seniors this was a memorable and successful season.  Though we may want to keep them longer, we are excited at the prospect of our seniors Levi Knoll, Graham Bales and Aydan Dill  moving on and we anticipate they will do well in their future endeavors.
We are very grateful to the fans and parents for the wonderful send off they gave the team to the State Competition.  The team appreciated it.
May God Bless.
