The Osborne Junior High scholars bowl teams hosted their home meet on Mon., Feb. 1. Along with OJH, teams from Beloit/St. John’s, Lakeside, Rock Hills and Stockton competed in the round robin tournament.

2020-2021 Osborne Junior High scholars bowl team members include eighth graders Payton Bales, Clay Guttery, Dawson Lantz, Kate Kendig, Addison Poore, and Grace William. OJH seventh grade team members are Ryah Bertuccelli, Mary Carlin, Annie Kendig, Tianna Lutters, Jayla O’Leary, and Kaiden Schultze. 

Osborne’s eighth grade team competed in round one against St. John’s #1 where they edged out the opponent for their first win 70 - 60. K. Kendig and Guttery answered three questions apiece with William adding one to the total. In round two, OJH beat Stockton 85 - 40 behind the scoring of Guttery with eight and William with one. Round three, pitted OJH against St. John’s #2 for another OJH victory, 60 - 25. Scoring was evenly spread between K. Kendig, Guttery and William with two apiece.

Continuing their winning streak in round four against Lakeside, Osborne scored 70  to Lakeside’s 40 to win the round. William led scoring with three, followed by Guttery with two and K. Kendig one. In their final round of the day, OJH beat Rock Hills 100 - 15 behind the scoring of Guttery with five, K. Kendig three, and William and Poore with one each.

Osborne’s eighth grade team finished the day with a perfect 5-0 win/loss record. Their performance earned the team first place at their own tournament. Finishing in second place was St. John’s #1 with a 4-1 record. St. John’s #2 finished with a 3-2 record for third place in the division.

On the seventh grade side of competition, Osborne played St. John’s #1 during round one losing 40 - 90. A. Kendig answered three questions correctly with Bertuccelli adding one more to the total. In round two against Stockton, OJH answered almost every question correctly in the round to win 120 - 0. Bertuccelli led in scoring with eight answers while Lutters added another four correct answers. Against St. John’s #2 in round three, Osborne lost 25 - 60. Scoring one apiece for the team were Bertuccelli, Carlin and A. Kendig.

During round four, OJH lost to Lakeside, 40 - 70. Bertuccelli answered three questions with Carlin adding one to the final score. In their final round against Rock Hills, Osborne’s seventh graders gathered their second victory of the day, 75 -20. A. Kendig scored four in the round while Lutters added three and Bertuccelli chipped in one.

Although the younger OJH team finished the day with a 2-3 win/loss record, they gained valuable competitive experience. St. John’s #2 and St. John’s #1 finished the day with identical 4-1 win/loss records. St. John’s #2 team took first place in the tournament as a result of beating St. John’s #1 during head to head competition. Lakeside finished the day in third place with their 3-2 record.

Next competitions for the local teams will be Mon., Feb. 8, at Lakeside for a 4 p start at the PTL meet. The varsity team (8th graders only) will be the team involved in the PTL meet. On Thurs., Feb. 11, both OJH teams will travel to Natoma for a meet beginning at 4:30 p. Due to Covid-19 concerns, no spectators will be allowed at any of the meets this year.
