Kicking Off Osborne Robotics
The Bulldog Bots kicked off their season with a fantastic performance at the Beloit Lego Holiday Competition on Tuesday Dec 9th. The competition was attended by 134 students from 7 different schools. The Competition hosted 5 unique events for robots to compete in. Of these 5 events, the Osborne Robotics Club took 1st place in 2, and brought home 6 out of the 16 medals awarded.
This year we ran the table in the Santa Sleigh Crash event, taking 1st, 2nd & 3rd. This race was a fully automated event, which required that the robots use ultra-sonic and pressure sensor inputs as they rush to touch a wall and return to the starting point. By also using a 3D compass to better orient the robot and prevent inaccurate turns, the Bulldog Bots were able to gain a critical edge over the competition.
The events that we were able to participate in included; “Reindeer Race” (a timed obstacle course around cones and through a gate to the finish), “Santa Sleigh Crash” (a timed race with robots rushing headlong into a wall, before recovering and returning to the start point), “Snowball Fight Catapult” (a point based competition to launch a ball and knock down as many cups as possible), “Reindeer Carrot Scavenger Hunt” (a timed event requiring the robot to follow a line and seek out and attack nearby objects) & “Santa Sumo” (a head-to-head battle against other robots to see who can stay in the ring).
Payson Sigle, Shandi Callaway & Corbin Mans took 1st place in Santa Sleigh Crash and 2nd place in Snowball Fight Catapult.
Kate Cook, Carson Mans & Jaxton Princ took 1st place in Santa Sumo.
Grayson Rietzke & Avery Mans took 2nd place in Santa Sleigh Crash.
Carter Delaney, Addy Sigle & Kip Crossland took 3rd place in Santa Sleigh Crash.
Karter Mans, Karlie Gasper & Kruze Oliver competed with scores very close to placing in multiple events.
After the competition scores were all tallied Payson Sigle, Shandi Callaway & Corbin Mans were also able to bring home the 1st place overall best team score.
All said, it was a great day to be a Bulldog and to show everyone that Osborne has some talented young aspiring engineers. Please take some time to watch some of the events at the link provided below.
