OJH Scholars Bowl Has Success at Stockton

The Osborne Junior High Scholars Bowl team competed at Stockton on Monday, February 26th. The eighth grade team started with a bye round and then quickly rattled off 4 straight wins before falling to Hill City. They rebounded and finished the seventh round with a win over Palco which was determined by a tie breaker question. With five wins and one loss the Bullpups were in a heated battle with Plainville who also had a five and one record. By defeating Plainville in head to head competition the OJH 8th Grade Scholars Bowl Team were declared the champions. Scores were as follows: OJH 70 – Smith Center 30, OJH 70 – Phillipsburg 60, OJH 70 – Stockton 30, OJH 70 – Plainville 50, OJH 30 – Hill City 60, and OJH 50 – Palco 40. Lead scorer was Deecon Dill with 110 points followed by Olivia Mans with 80 points. Peyton Clark scored a season high 60 points followed closely by Camrun Taylor and Josh Choate with 50 points each. Taryn Ellenz also contributed an important 10 points in the victory against Plainville. 

 


The seventh grade team, similar to the eighth grade team, also came down to a tie breaker with Plainville. The only difference was OJH was defeated by Plainville in head to head competition allowing the Plainville Cardinals to claim the championship and handing the OJH Bullpups the silver medal. While the scores were more lopsided in the victories for the Bullpups their loss was only by one question. The scores were as follows: OJH 90 – Smith Center 20, OJH 70 – Phillipsburg 15, OJH 65 – Stockton 20, OJH 60 – Plainville 70, OJH 60 – Hill City 30, and OJH 55 – Palco 30. High scorer for the seventh grade team was Stormy Guttery with 265 points. Kimber Barfield scored 70 points, Kassidy Mick contributed 50 points and rounding out the scoring was Hallie Mick with 15 points. Libbie Carlin and Ben Schultz also contributed their expertise during the competition.
