Mom jeans are the current trendy style of jeans today. What are mom jeans? Mom jeans are a term used to refer to a high-waist, above the belly button, loose fit type of jean. The jeans normally have an extra amount of material around the lower torso area and the legs. These jeans are an ankle fit jean and were traditionally only sold in regular denim color. Other elements of mom jeans are pleats, tapered bottoms, and elastic bottoms.
This hit jean is a blast from the past. Originally mom jeans were designed for women that had just given birth and needed loose fit clothing that fit their postpartum body. Back in the 1990s, you would usually see moms in their 20s and 30s wearing these jeans while they were shopping or picking up their kids from school. Today, mom jeans have been reimagined. The original jeans were more of a low rise fit and a more generic color of denim. Now, mom jeans are a high rise fit and you can find them in many different shades of denim.
Being a high school student and on social media, you learn what the current styles are in the fashion industry. In the last few years, mom jeans have become a hit and one of my favorite pairs of jeans. Not only do I like mom jeans because they are trendy, but they are the most comfortable jeans and they have a high waistline which fits my body type better. Mom jeans are versatile in that they can be dressed up or dressed down to fit any occasion.
Even though 78% of our student body were obvious about mom jeans before it became a trend, now 82.9% are aware of the popular item. According to a survey taken, mom jeans are rated at an 8 for comfiness. Gracie Riner, a Junior at Osborne, stated “I love to wear mom jeans because they are the current trend and I enjoy how comfy they are.” Even though she likes mom jeans, she prefers more straight jeans versus mom jeans. On the other hand, Kameron Miner, a senior at Osborne, does not think mom jeans are the style from a male’s point of view because of how high waisted they are and the loose fit. Some of the OHS staff have also been in on the mom jeans style. Mrs. Blair states “I love how comfy mom jeans are and how I can bend down and not worry about anything when with the older style that wasn’t the case.” She also mentions that there is a big change in how the jeans are made and she likes the variety of cuts that they offer in the new style of mom jeans. Overall, mom jeans have appeared in the OHS hallways and have become a piece of clothing that most females wear..
Mom jeans are jeans that were worn 30 years ago and have been adjusted to fit today's fashion industry. It fits today's fashion incredibly and continues to spread nationwide. Mom jeans are one of few trends that have appeared in our hallways, and there will be more in the future.
