The Junior High Students held an election today to prepare them for their Ameritowne visit coming soon on March 31.

Ameritowne, sponsored by Nex-Generation, is a hands-on lesson in free enterprise that provides students the opportunity to run their own, life-like Towne, held in the old high school in Lenora, KS.  Through a 4-6 week curriculum taught here at OJH, students have been working to create laws, run for Towne offices, create laws, open a bank account and practice managing their finances.  Soon, they will also be applying and interviewing for jobs, as well as meeting in business groups to set prices and create an advertising campaign in preparation for their Towne visit.  Learn more about Ameritowne in this short video!

Today at OJH, students voted using private ballots on candidates running for Mayor and Judge, as well as voting on three laws from a list they had generated in their separate classrooms.  Grace William, Jillian Schaefer, Doak Guttery, and Clay Guttery ran for Towne Judge, while Cale Hartsock and Spencer Nichols competed for Mayor.  Results for the election will be given after spring break.

Stay tuned for more news and activities regarding our trip to Ameritowne!
